Feature Wall & Textured Finish
From bare frame to statement finish
This Stanmore renovation called for a bold centrepiece — a full-height feature wall in the main living area, built around a linear electric fireplace and designed to carry a large wall-mounted television. The brief required the wall to make an immediate visual impact while integrating cleanly with the room's contemporary fit-out.
We built the wall from the ground up: steel stud framing was constructed to accommodate the fireplace opening and provide structural backing for the TV mount, with timber nogging set at the correct heights. Plasterboard was then fixed to the frame, joints taped, and screw heads filled — bringing the wall through to a solid, seamless substrate ready for the decorative finish.
The standout element is the decorative textured plaster applied over the feature wall panel. A hand-applied charcoal trowel finish gives the surface a natural, stone-like quality — its depth and variation catches the light differently throughout the day and glows warmly against the fireplace flame below. The surrounding walls received a conventional smooth set finish in a soft grey, ensuring the feature wall reads as a deliberate centrepiece rather than a continuation of the room.
