Transforming a raw timber-rafter alfresco into a clean, smooth plaster ceiling — a job that took an exposed, unfinished outdoor space and turned it into a polished entertaining area on the Sapphire Coast.

A finished ceiling for the Sapphire Coast

This Pambula home had an alfresco entertaining area that had been left with its original timber rafters and foil blanket insulation exposed — functional, but lacking the polished finish the owners were after. The brief was straightforward: bring the ceiling up to the same standard as the interior, giving the outdoor space a clean, liveable feel.

Alfresco ceiling work comes with its own set of challenges. Working between and around existing timber rafters, accommodating ceiling fan penetrations, and delivering a result that will hold up to the humidity and temperature variation of a coastal NSW climate all require careful material selection and technique. We lined the ceiling between the rafters and applied a smooth plaster finish throughout, integrating the fan outlets cleanly into the completed surface.

The result is an alfresco area that feels like a genuine extension of the home — a comfortable, well-finished outdoor space with smooth ceilings and all the ceiling fans in place for the summer months.
